Assisted by Miss Hill he does the trunk mystery with some card tricks in introduction. An act more than good. Opens in one, closes full stage.
“Queen of Magic.” This act is familiar to everybody on the circuit. She intends putting in one or two new tricks before the week is out, otherwise, she is doing the same thing she has done before. Time, 28 minutes, full stage.
Three Japanese men and two Japanese women in feats of magic. While there is nothing very wonderful about the feats performed the Japs excite considerable interest. Their act is prettily staged. 29 mins. F.S.
40 minutes, full stage. In his “Ching Ling Poo” magic and imitations of various band leaders. This is a very good act and it is surely going great with our patrons. Mr. Lafayette is compelled to take four and five encores at each performance. Our business this week is very big and we feel sure that this act is improving the business considerably.
Chinese magician. Because of the fact that he is a Chinaman, the act is a little bit of a novelty, but he does no tricks that mystify the audience at all, excepting where he is swung by his queue. I think at $75.00 the act is overpaid; it really should open the show in a continuous house. 12 min. open in 3, close in 1, 3 shows.
Chinese Magician with some of Ching Ling Foo’s tricks on a small scale that got good applause. His trick of being pulled up by the hair is novel and very good. Another valuable three show act for the money. Could easily open the two-a-day houses. 15 minutes, full stage. Close in one.
2 shows, 36 min, full stage. As ‘Cleopatra, the Egyptian Sorceress.’ The show had run considerably over time, but nevertheless she held the audience in good shape and they followed her with unrest throughout. It is not an act to call for great bursts of applause, but still, to judge by the interest shown today, and from my own observations, I would call it an excellent act the sort.
16 min. F.S. 3 shows. ON at 6:30. This is a platform museum act, pure and simple. The fire-eating trick and sword-swallowing do not appeal to our class of people at all, and the remainder while cleverly done, introduces nothing but a few simple feats which have been done repeatedly in the three-a-day section in this house. Not at all a desirable act for this house. Will open the show for balance of a week.
Italian Magician who had a trial here last Thursday, and as I predicted made good. He has a splendid act, and luckily cannot speak English, and his whole act is pantomime. He opens with Ching Ling Foo’s fire trick, and all his tricks went very well. A “find” for the money. His closing trick is a corker. Both Deodato and assistant are dressed in red swallow tails and black satin knee breeches. Very little paraphernalia and no steps to the audience. 17 minutes, full stage.
On at 1.22 16 min, opens in 1 4 min, 8 min in 2, closes 4 min in 1. He does rather an entertaining magic act, and his patter is quite interesting. He could hold down a better spot on the bill, if necessary.
