Laurence Crane

Irish Magician and Illusionist.  25 min. F.S. Does not open or close in 1.  A very clever man with a fine line of novelties in the magic line, and some stunners in illusion.  Could hold any but the star spot in the 2-a-day section.  Uses a velvet drop in two during part of his act to arrange set for the illusions which are immense.  Line of talk sprightly and amusing, with a little Irish brogue which heightens interest.  Act shows long training, the paraphernalia being brilliant and showmanlike.  Act includes ‘Miser’s Dream,’ ‘crystal Trunk Mystery,’ and ‘Cremation,’ all excellent and appealing strongly to all parts of the house.  A Safe feature.

Zana

This fellow does a very good act.  All of his tricks are very good, and he works very fast.  There is a little comedy in the act which is not bad.  A very good three a day act for about $50.00.  Went very well.  13 minutes, full stage, three shows.

Potter & Hartwel

Full stage. Good act, made good; went very good for opening act. Several meritorious tricks; neatly dressed and they work with much action.

Horace Goldin

‘The King Magician.’ 25 min, FS. Carries his own drop which, along with his men in uniform, makes a splendid showing. This is the most rapid-working magician act ever seen. The audience was worked up to the highest pitch of interest with every new surprise. None of his tricks were too obvious. Taken altogether, these illusions stamp him as genius in his line, and he could easily have held the audience for three times the time limit as they applauded constantly and were hungry for more. Every feat got a ringing hand. Regard him as one of the greatest Vaudeville attractions ever offered anywhere. We are billing him and ‘Motoring’ to the limit, and there is no doubt they will pull big nosiness for the rest of the week.

J. Warren Keane

Magician. This young man elaborated a little on his act. Giving an excellent exhibition of ball and card palming and introduces a few other little tricks. He is one of the cleverest in this line we have ever had. Seemed to puzzle the Jury completely, and held the attention of the audience throughout, something out of the ordinary for man of this calabre [sic]. Received quite a big lot of applause on his finish. 21 min, full stage. (Closed in one about 5 min.) 3 shows.

The Great Goldin

Goldin has an act of magic, most spectacular in nature and which I think will sent the people talking. It is a very pretentious affair, some six or seven people being in evidence all through and with his own scenery and with a great amount of parapharnalia [sic] the effect is very strong indeed. This being his first performance after landing (which he did little more than twenty-four hours before he went on) he was naturally a little bit shaky, but the act is very good one nevertheless. 19 min, full stage, 2 shows.

Shungopavi

On at 6.44, 15 min full stage, 5 min close in 1, 20 min in all; 3 shows.  The well-known Indian magician.  A very valuable 3-a-day; always does well here.  I think by taking the best of his tricks and cutting him down to 12 or 15 minutes, he could hold an early place on almost any bill.

Frank Bowman

ON at 1.39, 16 min, in 1; 3 shows.  Bowman is an excellent magician and his running-fire of remarks is bright and witty.  A find at $60 for the continuous houses.

Frank Bowman

15 min.  On at 6.33.  This man came on at supper time, to a practically empty house.  It is a good 3-a-day act and worthy of a better place.  He works in 1, with a conjurer’s paraphernalia, and adds to the general interest of the magic with a very bright line of talk.  Some of his tricks are new, and all of them very clever.  His work justifies a good spot in the 3-a-day section.

Chefalo & Capretta

Italian sleight-of-hand performer.  Very nice little act for the 3-a-day section.  NO fault to find with it at all, it is nicely dressed and they do some good sleight-of-hand work.  16 min. open full stage, close in one, 3 shows.
