Hermann the Great

Carries a handsome stage setting, and while most of his tricks are old they seem to go with the audience. His Hindoo Basket trick is the best of the lot. Hermann, himself seems to be entirely devoid of magnetism and his dialect is so pronounced that it is rather difficult to understand him, full stage 30 minutes.

Herbert Brooks

GRR 3. 17 minutes. Young man card manipulator, closing with an illusion. Some of his card tricks are exceptionally well executed. He makes a good appearance, and his work is clean. His illusion is well done, in fact, is good as any we have ever had here. The act is excellent for an early place on the bill.

The Great Jansen

AR 3. Two men and a woman, in 16 minutes of magic, card and ball manipulator, closing with an illusion. The act is nicely dressed. They work rather awkward, although a good act in the early section. Full stage, close in one. Three shows.

Jansen

Illusionist. This is rather a pretentious act for a small one although the people are somewhat amateurish in its presentation, the man’s talk being very much so. As three a day acts are very scarce, in a continuous performance however this act is valuable because it is out fo the routine of the usual sleight of hand acts, three people being in the turn, and has quite a little paraphernalia on. At the salary and all things considered it is fairly good. 15 min. in 3, can close in one.

The Finney’s

Time of act 12 minutes. Palace. This is a tank act with Mr. and Mrs. Finney remaining under water and doing several tricks while under same. The act causes considerable talk and I guess is as good as any other in their line. However, I do not think I would care to repeat them. This is a bad act for the people in the boxes as you have to set it so far back that more than half the people in our boxes are unable to see the act. The tank has to remain in the same place the entire week.

Mysterious Howards

Telepathy. 20 min. in 2. 2 shows. On at 8:15. These are very clever people, the mind reader being a man of apparently astounding powers. The work is similar to the Zanoig’s, but even swifter. The man is blindfolded and his confederate passes through the audience touching and examining articles, all of which are named by the operator on the stage. The silent telepathy work was particularly interesting and won a strong hand. There is no doubt about the ability of this act making good with the thinking part of the audience, as it certainly mystifies them. Received good hand at the finish. Fear it is not novel and brilliant enough to cause as wide comment as it otherwise would.

Durbyelle Sisters

3 shows, 13 min, full stage. Finger shadowgraphists. They work in full view of the audience with the screen at their rear, and although we have had lately Chassino and Mr. and Mrs. Darrow, these people went very well today.

Clement De Lion

GRR 2. Billiard ball manipulator, working somewhat like T. Nelson Downs – only much better. Without a question of doubt the greatest billiard ball and card manipulator and palmer that has ever played the house. His billiard ball work is marvelous. 11 mins. Pal. 3.

Allan Shaw

3 shows, 12 min. in 1. Coin and card manipulator, and as skilful an entertainer in this line as Howard Thurston, and with just as pleasing a personality. He, too, would make good further down on the bill.

Clement de Lion

GRR 2. Full stage, 14 minutes. This man made his American debut today as a manipulator of billiard balls and cards. He palms the billiard balls as Nelson Downes does the coins and without the least deception. He handles as high as four billiard balls at one time. The act is novel and went very strong.
