2 shows, 15 min. full stage. Ten young women with ‘handsome’ scenery and stage effects, in songs and dances. I put this act in all my Ads as the headliner of the show, and it fell down worse then anything I have ever witnessed in this house. Two of the young women simply stood on the stage and did not know what to do with hands or feet. They were guyed by the audience and even laughed at. Unless a new company has been substituted, I can’t for the life of me see how reports have been given so favourably on the act. We closed them with the first show.
The applause hit of the show. There are nine girls, and they can all sing and all dance. All of their numbers were liberally applauded, and the finish of their act was very strong. A very good act for this house. Open with Minstrel Maids, drop in three; then to Watermelon Girls, with special drop in five. 25 min.
Songs and dances. These young ladies, who were members of McMahon’s Watermelon Girls, were booked to fill the place vacated by the Musical Bells. They are young, dress all in white, and make a pleasing appearance. Fair singers and good dancers. Went very well. Good act for early bill. 12 mins in 1.
Introducing the Rooney Sisters and ten young ladies. Singing and dancing. Special scenery. This act is going very good with us. It is a very neat act and the girls all work together. It is a moretthan [sic] making good for us and aside from the scenery, which is not good, I think it one of the best girl act in the business.
The only bad thing about this act is their synopsis. The musical numbers are good, the dancing is good, and the scenery is also fair. Taking it all in all, it’s the best bunch of singing and dancing girls I’ve seen in a long while. The act is short, and only runs about 10 minutes, full stage.
20 minutes, open in 10 in one, close full stage. Eight young ladies playing brass and reed instruments and finish with their electric dance which is very effective. This act is much improved since we last played it and I now consider it a very good act. It is going very big with us.
Enter dressed in short black skirts and do a lively song and dance. Then six appear in a tambourine and acrobatic dance. Then two appear in an Irish dance and costume. (This directly conflicts with the Fraser Trio.) Then six appear in the ‘radium dance’ – white costumes treated with phosphorus. This did not amount to much, and hardly received a hand. The act will change places with Jit Jitsu. A good billing novelty, and that lets it out. 11 mins, gar in 5.
This act consists of eight girls, and is hardly strong enough for a headliner. It is a novelty in its way, and the house must be kept absolutely dark to get any benefit from it. The act opens with some singing and dancing. Several of the girls make two changes in costume. The act was rather a disappointment to everybody. However, it’s not a bad act by any means, and if the act hadn’t been head-lined, it would have gone through all right. Time 10 minutes full stage.
Twelve rather comely young women in songs, dances and instrumental selections. This act is fully up to the standard of the Vassar Girls and in fact it goes stronger than the Vassar girls. The feature of the act is the numbers by the Two Roses. 27 min, FS.
Own set, 14 min, 5 in one. Five attractive girls, possessors of good voices and of good appearance, wearing their national costumes and singing their national anthems, following them with a couple of songs in English and closing with a Swedish dance. Their opening song was well received and while they did not gain a great amount of applause they received some all through their act and closed satisfactorily. The act itself is interesting to the audience and its novelty will add to its value. 2 shows.
