Eight women. Scene first:-“The Officer’s Quarters,” showing the girls as soldiers, singing, marching, etc. Scene 2;-“ the Purple Palace”, with the grenadiers juggling batons, singing, etc. Scene 3;-“Art Nouveau-Les Cymbals”, with the girls singing and playing the cymbals. Finale;-“The Musician Directeurs Excentrique.” Between the various setting Mlle. Flor D’Allias and Miss Meredith Meredro singing alternately. Act is handsomely staged. The costumes are gorgeous with all elegant scenery. Girls make five changes. Their appearances are elegant and their voices good. Act has an atmosphere of novelty to it. Brings up the tone of the bill being so far from anything else we ever had. All of the various characters were applauded and with big applause on the finish. 27 min
Well known on the circuit, and made as good as usual. Miss Seymour and Mr. Cripps were in good voice, and the girls all worked well. The “Con” finish of this act is the main feature, and received several recalls. 18 minutes, full stage. Very short close in one.
Open in two. Conservatory drop. Doing a minstrel first part. There are nine of these girls, and they both sing and dance very well/ In the second part the girls all make a change to the Watermelon Girls with a special drop. Very good act. Went very well.
2 shows, 20 mins, full stage. Presenting ‘Songs of the Cities’ from the ‘Prince of Pilsen.’ I was somewhat disappointed with this act and so were the audience. It started rather slow and there were only a few of the young ladies who seemed to arouse any enthusiasm or applause among the patrons. I consider it very far from a great act, and while it was not a ‘frost,’ it did not make the hit that has been attributed to it in other cities.
We had a good house this afternoon and I think Truly Shattuck and the City Girls are to blame for it. When their number was announced the people began to sit up and take notice. Received advance applause. The act went very well indeed. I was very much amused when the Philadelphia Girl sang ‘Bye, bye, let me sleep.’ The girls are all very pretty and handsomely gowned and each can dance and sing. The audience seemed thoroughly pleased. Palace in 5. 19 minutes.
Instrumentalists, singers and dancers. Twelve young ladies. Making a very nice appearance. Act was fully described in previous criticism. Rather rough in construction and far from being a feature act for this house. Just about got by to-day. 27 min, full stage, 2 shows.
One of the best big acts we have ever played. The girls, ten in number, are well trained, the scenic investiture is fine, and on the whole it exceeded our expectations and scored a magnificent hit. The minstrel first-part runs 22 minutes, and the closing at full stage with two watermelon girls runs 5 minutes.
Billed as comediennes. One working straight and the other grotesque. The one working straight can not sing. She tries, but that is near as she gets. Girl doing the comedy carries the act. She received the laughs and they were frequent and hearty. Act ended much better than it started. Drapery in one. 20 minutes.
Opening in one about 10 minutes, then to full stage. Wood. This is the third time we have played this act and I do not hesitate to say that it is going better than at any former engagement here. The act is very neat, the electric display making a great picture, and the girls good musicians. Taken as a whole, I consider it one of the best musical acts we have in vaudeville.
2 shows, 25 min, full stage, close in 1. Instrumental, singing and dancing specialties, presented in three scenes: 1, Indian Camp; 2, Aboard Ship; 3, Interior. Between the full stage portion they introduced a violin solo and whistling imitations by May Evans. Went very well today and it will unquestionably go big tonight. Did not open in 1, but can close in 1, if needed.
