JAMES and THOMPSON.

12 Mins.; One (special). Much “hokum” with paint brushes dipped in prop paste and slapped all over each other by two men working in blackface. The incidental conversation carried on was neither particularly bright and did not contain many laughs. It was left entirely to the haphazard maneuvering of the “suds” to push the act over. It’s low comedy all the way with the house immensely enjoying the messing up of the pair, though backward in demonstrating their approval at the end of the 2 minutes.

Hawthorne & Anthony

16 min. “Tony and his Legal Adviser.” These boys got plenty of laughs with their character talking act. They appear as Italians and have a good line of chatter, closing with a musical bit which took them off to a good hand.

Abbott & White

Two young men with pleasing voices, but only fair ability, who by no means compare with the #2 acts we have been having of late. Most of their laughs and applause are secured by very questionable methods. 15 minutes in one.

Bostock’s Riding School

11 min. The riot of comedy following some fancy riding by a man and a girl carried this act through to a big laughing hit in the closing position of the show. Six persons, including three plants, are employed and the burlesque riding gives the act a tremendous laughing finish.

Barry & Layton

13 min in 1. Two men, both natural comedians in a combination of good wholesome fun; little boxing and finish with roller-skating number which got them a big hand closing.

Sam Mann & Co.

41 min f.s. This philosophical farce presented by Mr. Mann is, without a doubt, one of the best acts of its kind that has played here. He has very capable company and held attention throughout. Went big.

Four Kasting Kays

9 min. Changed from closing to opening position owing to the failure of an act to arrive on time, this act gave the show a good start. There are three men and a woman, the latter acting as one of the bearers, and one of the men works in comedy make-up. Do the usual casting routine and did very well in this spot.

Sam Bernard

19 min. This well known comedian worked in German makeup and used German dialect, but this made no difference with our audience. He was given a great reception, kept the audience laughing all the time and closed big. He had made little change in his monologue since last seen here.

Whipple Huston Co.

19 min. f.s. spl. Set. This well known team have a new act which is very neat, pretty and quite a little comedy, but I think the old act got more big laughs. Went good.

“Corner Store”

This act certainly make them laugh in spite of its company of about as bad a lot of actors as ever I saw outside of an Ardath act. I think they are better than he had to his “Farm Act.” But let this discourage you, the audience ate it up. 18 minutes f.s.
