3 shows, 13 min. in 1. German dialect comedians, parody singers and wooden shoe dancers. From a 3-a-day standpoint, good act. Made a hit in this place
GRR 2. Miss Stembler is a singing comedienne of excellent ability. She does her act now in the makeup of a rustic maiden which gives her an opportunity to make a rather catchy entrance and is appropriate to her first song. After that she gives an imitation of a Coney Island concert singer, and finishing her act with her old whistling “coon” song. She made her usual impression here and went very strong. 12 minutes, in one.
Singing and dancing comedienne. She appeared to better advantage this week, than on her former appearance, and she seems to please our audience. 13 min. in one.
3 shows, 18 min, full stage. This is a Western team that has appeared in the principal vaudeville houses west of New York but have not done any work in the east, and I put them in here this week with the understanding that it has to be sort of a ‘tryout.’ They are both fairly clever and I think if they had a better place in the bill than they can get here this week, would make good. The man makes up on the style of Nat Wills, a little more exaggerated perhaps and in addition to his comedy sings some good parodies. The woman plays as a soubrette with two changes of costume. If they will continue in the 3-show section at GRR it will be a cheap and good act.
In a vocal novelty entitled ‘Christmas on Blackwell’s Island.’ This act has also been over the circuit and goes very well here. It is a novelty, though I believe the voices are not as good as when I heard them in Buffalo last summer. Evidently there has been some changes for the worst. Time 20 minutes in one.
Two young men in a German comedy act. There is no question but that these two boys are going to do a very fine act at no fair distant day. They opened this afternoon with a particular kind of song which went pretty good. They went back considerably and for five minutes I thought the act was going to pan out badly, but they seemed to recover themselves and finished quite strong. There is no question but that they have the ability, and as soon as they feel a little easier in their work I think they will take rank with the best of the Dutch acts. 16 min, in one.
Foy appears as ‘Sister Ann’ of ‘Mr. Bluebeard’ and sings three songs from that production. Between songs he tells a few jokes and introduces a ‘prop’ elephant which gets many laughs. He is proving the biggest drawing card of the season. 11 min, full stage, close in one.
Comedian and mimic who sings a couple of topical songs and some funny stories and imitations. Is all right also in an early portion of the bill and from a three a day standpoint may be classed as fairly good. 14 min in one, 3 shows.
CDF, 15 min, 3 shows. Man and woman, man with a very bad make up of silly kid, woman rather nice looking though she seemed somewhat amateurish. Hanvey was with comedy quartette until recently and sings the songs that he sung with that quartette with a fairly bad tenor voice, but the character of the songs made them go as they wars of the ‘home and Mother’ order. In order to allow his to change from the silly kid to a dress suit for the last song in one, the woman does what she announces as a bit of ragtime but it was only passable. I would not advise the act for other houses until the man gets a make up more befitting his character work. He might pass through with this remedied up about number two or three in the other houses.
He is so far different from the others that he occupies his field alone, occupies it well, and while his talk and songs are nonsensical in the extreme he furnishes fifteen minutes of entertainment which brings as much applause and pleasure as any act we play in one. All in one.
