Dixon & Holmes

Two men: character singing comedians. One of their bits is the lighthouse scene from “Shore Acres.” Good act for the three show section. All in one. 14 minutes.

Geo. Thatcher

GYH 2. Mr. Thatcher had considerable new material and all new songs this afternoon. He has one of those acts that does not call for uproarious laughter, and I have always felt the audience enjoyed his act even when they did not manifest it by much applause. I watched the people closely this afternoon and he certainly pleased the women especially, for they laughed constantly every moment he was on. 19 minutes in one.

Harry Salmon and Ida Chester

3 shows, 14 min. in 1. Coster comedians. The act opens with Salmon singing one of Chevalier’s well-known songs, “My Old Dutch”, which he does quite creditably. Miss Chester sings one which we have had here too often in the last few months, “At The Altar”. Can be considered a fair act for the 3-a-day division.

Edgar Bixley

Comedian. 15 min. in 1. 2 shows. Had a lot of good songs, and sings them with a good deal of dash. He caught the crowd, although it is nothing of a star-feature. Held down the place pretty well, and won two or three encores.

Thompson and Vidocq

2 shows, 16 min in 1. Parody singers and conversational comedians. Their talk is fair, being rapid, but a good deal of it has been here before. While they got a few scattering laughs they by no means went big. In fact, they hardly got by in this position. Will move them up.

Katie Barry

Comedienne. 15 min in 1. 2 shows. Received some advance applause. This is a very clever little comedienne. Caught the house from the first with English music-hallstyle of humor. Her various impersonations and songs were well received, and there were five curtain calls at finish. She sang “Henry Brown” in conjunction with a young man in one of the balcony loges, which helped the act. She will prove a big feature for us.

Lilly Seville

Comedienne 12 min. in 1. 3 shows. Rather amusing character singer, but inclined to be a little coarse. Directed some of her songs to persons in the front much to their embarrassment. Managed to secure some few laughs, received a recall at the close. Finish fair.

John D. Gilbert

2 shows, 17 min in 1. ‘Comedian-at-large,’ in songs and sayings. A most difficult spot for a single entertainer of his order and he just about managed to hold it this afternoon, although he secured scattering laughs all through, Cut ‘losing flesh rapidly.’

Meaney & Anderson

Man and woman, in a yankee comedy, talking, singing and dancing act. Material very dull, singing and dancing only fair, which just about lets them out. Fifteen minutes, full stage, three shows.

John T. Ray

3 shows, 14 min. in 1. Rube comedian and singer, and eccentric dancer. First time here. Most of his material is stolen from the acts of the late Arthur Sidman, his dialect is poor and general appearance unconvincing. Not much of an act even from the 3-per-day standpoint.
