Jess Dandy

Hebrew song and parodies: Dandy had a somewhat hard place on the bill, following everybody else, but he held his own, and the audience forced him to sing about seven or eight songs. He has a whole new line of parodies this trip and I think he is going to be fully as strong as ever. 14 minutes, in one.

Dixon & Anger

Drop in 1. Two men, talking comedians, one working straight and the other in German eccentric makeup. Their material is all new and funny, although the spot this afternoon was too much for them. If they do not go any better to-night will probably change them with Searly & Violet Allen. 17 minutes.

Jake and June Bernard

3 shows, 15 min. open in 3, close in 1. Doing practically the same act they have always offered here, the man working in German makeup, similar to his brother, [“Sam”?], and the woman working straight. If he ever attempted to do Sam’s old monologue I think it will be a rank failure, as he does not possess the older brother’s cleverness. They are all right in this place on the bill, but would not stand for a lower place, in this house, at least.

Valerie Bergere & Co

22 mins. Fancy in 3. In “His Japanese Wife.” Three people in the company – two women and a man. Miss Bergere in the character of the Japanese girl is on the stage most of the time, and does some excellent character work. Her support is good. The sketch is a bit “talky” but is interesting throughout, and the dialogue contains a great deal of quiet comedy – the kind our audience can thoroughly appreciate. Though quiet and lacking action, the sketch is good, and Miss Bergere does all that could be expected of her. Good act.

McIntyre & Rice

Drop in one, 20 minutes. A nonsensical conglomeration of ideas and talk, in which McIntyre posing as an Irish comedian shows that he is not one. Their work is able to arouse considerable laughter, but in my opinion they are overpaid and could only be rated as good in the 3 a day section. Closed only to light applause. 2 shows.

Yorke & Adams: Street in One

18 min, 2 shows. Hebrew comedians in the act that they have played over the circuit; they did very well although one subject is spun out a little bit further than it ought to be. If I had a little bit longer show I would make them get it together. However, they were a hot all right and help up their place in real good shape.

Hoey & Lee

Street in one, 10 min, 2 shows. Hebrew comedians who have been, in the reports from the other houses, compared very favorably with Yorke & Adams. Their work here today and the results they obtained scarcely showed them as up to that comparison. Their redeeming point being that they are able to sing a little bit better than the usual Hebrew comedian. They scarcely help up this place on the bill this afternoon, but I hope for better results from them tonight, and if I don’t get them I will shove them a little bit up the bill.
