Campbell & Caulfield

Two men, Irish comedians, talking and singing – mostly the regular street cross-fire talk. These acts are not like here, and the most they can do is to fill in time on the early bill. They stand no show at all if in the two-show section. 12 mins. in one.

Carlin and Otto

2 shows, 16 min. in 1. German dialect comedians, much cleverer than were the Rogers Brothers in their palmiest days, and it is not fair to them to be billed as “legitimate successors of the Rogers Brothers in vaudeville.” Scored the laughing and applause hit of the show.

Arthur Whitelaw

GYH 2. Irish comedian. This fellow has the neatest Irish make-up that I have ever seen on the stage. His humor is of a rather quiet character, but still I think the audience appreciated it. He doesn’t burlesque the character at all, but simply makes up as a well dressed, well to do Irishman. 19 mins. in one.

Dixon and Anger

2 shows, 16 min in 1. German dialect comedians. These men have practically the same material as their last visit here and as a consequence did not go near so well. This position is altogether too stiff for them and will move them up for the balance of the week.

Cliff Gordon

German comedian, 15 min. in 1. 2 shows. This man is a born comedian of the best monologue order. His talk was a running fire of wit and pertinent series. There were laughs every moment of the way. Held down this place on the bill splendidly and went off to big applause.

Jake and Jane Bernard

2 shows, 20 min. open full stage, close in one—German dialect comedian and singing soubrette. Man makes up in imitation of his brother, and apes his work to some extent. The act is all right for an early placed in the three-show section, and it does not seem probably that it will ever get beyond that.

Swift & Barton

This is the original Swift of Swift & Barton and Swift & Huber. He is now working with a Dutch comedian by the name of Barton, and, while the act in dialect is practically the same as ever, Barton is rather a better comedian than the last two, consequently the act went very nicely this afternoon. Musical comedy act. 18 minutes, full stage; can close in one if necessary.

Peggy Fox

2 mins. in one. Character comedienne. Local act, booked through Felix Isman. Makes two changes: a Japanese girl and a little girl. First time on any stage. Very nervous; in fact, scared to death, and this may have affected her work. Will have to go up the bill.

Conway and Killeen

3 shows, 15 min. open in 1, go to 3, close in 1. This is a neatly dressed Irish dialect comedy singing and dancing team, much more acceptable than that of Murphy and Nolan, whom we had last week. Conway’s song, “Laughing Casey,” made quite a hit. The act would stand for a better place in the bill than it can be given this week.
