On at 1.15, 16min, in 1. A regulation talking act, the comedian in Dutch make-up. All right for this spot on the bill, but do not think they could hold a better one.
German Comedians. 15 min. in 1. 3 shows. A quarter-hour of absolutely the worst imitation of near-wit imaginable, and I don’t see how they can sleep nights after taking the money. They got the fewest laughs and the poorest closing hand of any team I ever saw on this stage. Ten years ago they would have been fourth-raters. Their rating now is beyond my power of computation. By actual count, sixteen people paid them the compliment of getting up and leaving the show during their act.
“The Baron & His Friend”: 16 min. in 1. 2 shows. German comedy. There is plenty of nonsense in this feature, but it suffered after the rollicking knockabout work of the previous acts. There are some bright hits, and at the close was fairly strong. Without so much other comedy on the bill these people would have made a much better impression.
‘Frizzled Finance.’ 15 min. in 1. 2 shows. Immense German dialect stuff, every line of which got a laugh. Went so strong that they will go down the line tonight. One of the best acts of the kind we have had. Good topical song which won two encores and a curtain-call. All O.K.
The two Israelites. 16 min. in 1. 2 shows. One impersonates a rich East Side Jew and the other his poor and despised neighbor. Has a good deal of amusing talk. The close with two songs won big applause and a curtain call. Their work is very true to Hebrew character, and there is absolutely nothing in it that would offend. It would go better with evening audiences, I think.
German Musical Comedian. Opens with a little monologue, which is very mediocre. Gave solos on the saxophone and bells, which were greatly appreciated. Introduced a phonograph, rater novel, acts as a feeder. Received some few laughs. Act is thoroughly alright for an early place, although paying a little too much money. 18 min. in two-closed in one. 3 shows.
Hebrew Comedian. 12 min. in 1. 2 shows. Small advance hand. This man has only a fair line of talk, but he has something of a personality as it goes. Received an encores. Just about holds down this spot. May go better tonight
2 shows, 19 min. In 1 – German comedians, singers and dancers. These chaps started off a little slow until they brought out their airship when they produced original lines of material which was very bright and got the audience in good humor. The set is a good one if not down too far. Cut, “If you can’t get the Liver you get Kidney Trouble”.
Billed in their “refined” German comedy “A Mixed Affair.” It is far from being refined. It is rough talking and no merit. Woman looks nice, but has no voice and cannot sing. The man just manages to get by for his comedy end. The only parts of the act that brought a laugh was the man’s parodies and they were suggestive. 19 min. -Full stage- 3 shows.
In an Irish Character Comedy: Received some few laughs, Morton’s dancing going very strong. Act pleased immensely and they closed big. 12 min. full stage, 3 shows.
