Man and woman with stepping and chatter.
“The Happy Medium”: 23 min. F.S. Close in 1. On at 7:54. This act did not catch on after the good things gone before and had to be shifted up several pegs. In fact, it was right up to the finish before it really got the crowd. There is a lack of coherency in the act and the comedy is forced and often far-fetched. The dancing, trick piano playing and singing are not up to the standard. The girl appears in two changes of costume, but has no singing voice and relies on her sprightly dancing and repartee to please. The close in one was only fairly strong and the finishing hand likewise.
Comedians and dancers. These boys drew the first blood, in the afternoon. They are pretty good comedians and excellent dancers and as the audience were hungry for something, they naturally scored pretty well. Am swapping places with them and Mayme Remington for the night show.pro
On at 2:19, 17 min, in 1. This act, as usual, scored strongly, although they have brought very little new material. Murphy is certainly one of the funniest coons in shows business, a particularly good eccentric dancer, while Frances wears good costumes and makes an acceptable foil.
Col. S. & D.: 12 min. in 1. 2 shows. On at 7:35. This is a highly recommended coon act. The singing is only fair, but the comedy introduced into the eccentric dancing catches the gallery. Closed with the best hand I ever heard a coon pair receive in this house. Two curtain calls.
Man and woman in “The Lady Burglar.” Man is a good dancer, and got a good hand. The woman’s change to the male Burglar is good, and the dialogue got good laughs in spots. Very good three show act, and could stand a better place. 18 minutes, full stage.
At the afternoon show, with a crowded house and practically a holiday audience there being no school and a rainy day, this act made a big hit, but I was inclined to believe it was because of our class of audience more than the act itself and watched it very closely at the night show when they, by no means, lived up to the hit of the afternoon. In any house where the roughest kind of slap-stick stuff is appreciated and where an artistic side is not considered very much, they would make a hit. To say that it was boisterous would be putting it mildly. It is so coarse that it borders very strongly on vulgarity. I made more cuts in this act than I have in any ten acts this season. The girl’s dancing was a big hit at the night’s show as well as in the afternoon and their finish in one scored quite strongly, but I can’t see the rest of the act, altho’ I think it is worth playing, but not again for me. 22 min. open full stage with about 3 min. in 1, 2 shows, should be 3.
On at 8.42, 12 min. full stage, 5 min close in 1; 17 min in all. One of the best eccentric comedy and dancing acts that we have had in a long while. Gave great satisfaction to this evening’s audience. It will go even stronger through the week.
This act is on the European order. Two men and a woman in a refined comedy dancing act. Go quite strong. 10 mins. F.S.
This is one of the best of the three a day turns. The man is a splendid dancer, high kicker, and has rather a good comedy personality. They were very well accepted indeed. 19 min. open in 2, close in one, three shows.
