‘The Minstral Girls.’ It will be very difficult to make these girls do three shows if they continue to make the hit as they did this afternoon. All their songs and dances were encored and on the finish they bowed three times. Will arrange to give them a better place. Thirteen minutes in one, three shows.
Billed this man as the ‘Champion Singer of Coon Songs’ and the billing will stand as he is the best coon shouter we ever had as far as impersonation goes. In this tight place he received as much applause as any act on the bill. Seventeen minutes in one, three shows.
15 mins. in one. Man and women, blackface singing and dancing and a little talk. Blockhead, fool, dumb-head and other things are mentioned in the talk, which is bad. Singing is not bad, but all their songs have been worked to death here – very old.
2 shows, 16 min, in 1. Blackface comedian and singer. Did not go so strong as the last time he was here, but probably the place in the bill is too stiff for him to negotiate. Had a lot of new material, and I consider he did capitally under the circumstances.
Blackface monologue and songs. Received advance applause on his entrance. Personality seems to be the keynote of his great success. The same stuff in other hands would fall flat. There is no question about his ability to ‘make good,’ but there are a number of acts that can turn the trick at less money, and it would seem that this man is getting all the money he is worth, especially when one considers that a dress suit case constitutes his ‘excess’ baggage and he has no ‘company’ to pay. This is his third trip here in ten months. A very good at. Probably the applause hit of the show. 30 mins in one.
Blackface comedians, vocalists and dancers; They always go exceptionally strong in this house and this week is no exception to the rule. Swan has quite a little bit of new talk and his peculiar whining way of delivering it seemed to catch our audience. O’Day makes a good foil for him. 20 minutes in one.
Black face monologist and parody singer. His monologue does not amount to much, but certainly gets them on his parodies. He received the biggest lot of laughs up to this time and holds down this place in good shape and I believe he could make good further down. Nineteen minutes in one, two shows.
Blackface, in his well known character of the ‘nurse girl.’ Drop in 1, 2 shows, 17 minutes. He has a lot of good material and managed to keep them laughing during his entire act. He is all right to head the two-show class.
Surprisingly good little three a day act, two men on blackface, one of whom at least is a pretty good dancer. The comedy is not very strong but the act made quite a hit: for the early section is all right. 15 min in 1, 2 shows.
Three men; blackface, giving an old time minstrel performance, using their drop representing a big organization. The act is excellent for an early place. Their material although old was well receive [sic] they secured many laughs and it is a very acceptable three a day act. Drop in one, twenty-five, 3 shows.
