In a small way, a very clever blackface comedian who undoubtedly is following Sweatnam’s style and should not be surprised if some day we heard from him as one of the leaders. 15 minutes in one.
YHR. Two men in a black and white face comedy act, which is well known to every one. I think it went stronger this afternoon than ever before in the house. 21 mins. Open full stage and closes with about 10 minutes in one.
14 min. in 1. Blackface monologue and singing comedian, this being his first time here. He had a good line of talk, but his delivery was not such as to get the most out of it. Began to get laughter towards the end of his act, I expect he will go well during the balance of the week. Cut out a “gag” that was used in New York, one dwelling upon his mother-in-law having gone to a warmer clime.
15 min. in 1. Blackface singing and talking comedian. Quite a clever chap and made good on the hard spot following the elephants, and being cut out of the orchestra, which is the usual signal for the audience to disperse.
Black Face comedy. 18 minutes in 1. Good material and getting by all right.
GYH. Colored comedians after the style of Williams and Walker. They are going a turn of talking, singing and dancing, and have a very good act. Hart is very much like Williams of Williams and Walker, both in appearance and in action, and Avery makes a very good foil. It is a very good act. 17 minutes, in one.
12 min. in 1. Blackface comedian. He could not make good in this place in the bill and only did about 4 minutes. Coming off he served a notice on us that he was going to quit, and so long as he was not going to take the balance of the show with him we reluctantly allowed him to go.
18 min, open in 2, close in 1. In extravagant burlesque comedy, one working in blackface and the other made up as a “bum” tragedien [sic]. I think Lewis one of the funniest men who blacks up, and Ryan makes a great foil for him. They went with a scream from start to finish.
This is a new blackface comedian, and I think that sooner or later he is going to make a good monologue artist. His methods are good and he tells several new stories, and several old ones, which he has put together in a little different form, and sings two or three original songs. He is a new man comparatively, but I think a coming one. 21 minutes in one.
These people are giving a Dutch version of practically the same act they had last season in black and white face. It is only a fair act but is all right for the place they get on the bill. 25 min. open in three, close in one.
