Victor Gillam

For the first two subjects, Mr. Gillam has selected an “Old Salt” and “Fresh Salt” (sailor and boy). Using some sort of pencil, he draws upon the surface of the paper, without the marks showing. Rapidly lining out the heads, he thereafter spreads over the surface a handful of a black substance which, when rubbed off, leaves the heads in darkened outline.

Drawing. The man first appears i eccentric makeup and lair does a “straight.” He draws with chalk and crayon. HIs “Jeff and Mutt” reproductions were the best of his character types.
