Manning and Lee succeeded nicely with a rather disconnected routine of talk that contained some old matter. Their comedy numbers are not as good as they might be and are poorly handled.
Challias and Lambert made a corking impression with a classy song and piano offering. Miss Challias with mannerisms and voice similar to Irene Franklin imitates the latter’s “Janitor’s Child” number perfectly.
Diana Bonner, breezed on the stage gorgeously gowned, displayed mush class and an excellent voice. Miss Bonner opened with an operatic selection which scored. She resembles and assumes many of the mannerisms of Grace LaRue.
Jesse Hayward and Co. presented “The Heart of Annie Wood” in a most effective manner. Miss Hayward winning approval as an old timer in theatricals. There were plenty of laughs in the sketch. Vida Walker played as the amateur and William Hefferson scored as the manager.
A fairly diversified show with Long Tack Sam and Co. as the headline. This act closed the show most successfully. The act surpasses any thing of a similar nature which has ever been seen here. The magnificent oriental hangings and the manner of presentation of the feats by the members of the company were impressive.
Corty and Althoff, a chic girl bubbling over with personality assuming French mannerisms in song delivery, was accompanied at the piano with her partner, whose playing of “Lucia,” with the left hand, was received with appreciation. The classy appearing girls scored most successfully.
Jack Reddy started well as a souse, singing “Alcoholic Blues,” but was too early to get any results with his familiar confidential talk, and finished with a dope number lightly received.
The big comedy hit was Pete, Pinto and Boyle, appearing as part of the big act. This male trio, with a rather original idea, topped the show, the big laughs coming from Pinto’s working in the audience, and who steps on the stage for the finish, and by rubbing his thumb on a wardrobe trunk, makes a noise sounding like a bass viol, which accompanies Pete’s steel guitar playing. Jack Boyle handles the straight nicely, possessing a good voice and appearance.
Winchell and Green are a youthful couple possessing all the attributes for the better houses. The team compromises a cute girl and a nifty youth delivering a singing, talking and dance act, including some familiar business, in a top notch manner.
Mabel Harper and Co. is a comedy skit next to closing, registered a big hit. Miss Harper is a clever but comedienne with an original style and she has a corking comedy routine which is effectively presented.
