NH. A man and a woman in a harmless little act just about hit to open the bill with, and which includes some singing, some talking, and the close in one where the man does a few comedy acrobatic stunts. All right in its place in the bill. 15 minutes; open full stage; 3 minutes close in one.
GYH. Two men, a woman and a little boy in a comedy sketch. The feature of this act is the little boy, who is supposed to be the bell boy in a hotel. He is very bright and precocious and makes quite an impression. The rest of the people get along fairly well, the situations carrying the act. 20 minutes; full stage.
YRR. This act consists of one man and two women. The act opens in one with two girls giving an imitation of two Bowery girls, which is very clever indeed without being offensive; then the man comes on and he doesn’t amount to very much, and simply holds the stage while the women make a change; they then go to full stage and the women sing a song while the man changes, and they close the act with the three singing and dancing in fancy wardrobe which is heavily loaded with rhinestones. It is a very good act indeed, and made a good impression here. 19 minutes, opening in one, closing full stage.
GYH. Fiver colored people, four men and one woman in a comedy singing and dancing act. This act comes very near being the best colored act that we have ever played. They impersonate Chinamen and Hebrews and do a lot of singing and dancing that is exceptionally clever and made a most pronounced hit. 14 mins. Opening in one, then working in two, closing in one.
YRR. Presenting a new comedy sketch entitled “Why Doogan Swore Off”, and it is very much better that anything they have ever done with us before. Neither of these people are especially clever but the evidently have had the good sense to pay somebody to write up this sketch for them, and some of the situations and many of the lines are really very funny, and gained lots of laughs. It is a good comedy act. 23 minutes; full stage.
It is again demonstrated this afternoon that many of our people have not seen the biograph to any great extent, on account of it coming so late in the bill, so that several old pictures on the list this afternoon got lots of laughs and the patrons seemed to be thoroughly entertained all the time. 14 minutes in one.
This is about the same act that these people have always presented here. They consist of two men and a woman, two or three ponies and an equal number of dogs, introducing trapeze work by the woman and some rather clever work by the ponies and dogs, one man acting as ring-master and the other as clown. This is a really good act and pleases everybody, and needs only a good funny man for a clown to make it a big act. 18 minutes; full stage.
Man and woman in an alleged comedy sketch. These people have played the Providence and Philadelphia houses and I heard non complaint about them, but I hardly think that I should ever have booked them had I seen them personally. They are not especially bad neither are they very good. The man is one of the original Crawford brothers, and while a fairly good dancer, was never very funny. The woman is a very large woman and does not present a very edifying spectacle on the stage. In the upper part of the hill they do no particular amount of harm, but I can only class them as far. 13 min. open full stage, close in one.
GYH. This is one of the best acrobatic comedy acts that has ever played the house. One of the men makes up straight and the other as a white faced clown, after the style of Geo. Carron, and his methods remind me very much of Carron. He makes some very funny falls and makes them so naturally that the audience fairly scream with laughter. It is an excellent act throughout. 11 mins. Full stage.
GYH. This is a man and a woman in a balancing trapeze and ring act, a European importation. The woman does nothing at all but stand around and assist the man, and while she is very pretty the audience were inclined to guy her a little bit this afternoon on account of the fact that she does not do anything. If there is any indication of their doing so to-night I will take her off entirely. The man is an exceptionally clever ring performer, and can work his act alone all right, if necessary. Their wardrobe is very beautiful indeed, and it may have been there were a few fresh people down in front that starting the guying. The act is really a good one. 12 mins. Full stage.
