In a fairly acceptable comedy sketch of which the theme is a very dangerous one, taking up as it does and advocating the intermarriage of Catholics and Jews. It is all right to a broad minded person but, the Orthodox are sure to resent it. 20 minutes f.s.
Comedy songs and a little patter presented in an unusual manner. Their material is excellent and in the hands of better performers would no doubt be a real hit; as it is the act is only fair. 14 minutes in one.
Illustrated lecture on Russia. Dr. Bowker is always a welcome visitor to Providence and this time appeared more so. He has a very interesting talk on a timely topic, very interesting talk on a timely topic, which held the audience in close attention and he was rewarded at the finish with a heavy outburst of applause. This morning’s paper praised him and I talked with a number of people last night and this morning who particularly mentioned him as a pleasing feature of last night’s program. I would advise any manager to play him.
Tommy Gray’s patriotic sketch presented by Brown University students who donate their services; the salary paid the act being used to purchase Liberty Bonds (which were procured in advance) and the Bonds donated to the Providence Journal Athletic Fund. This is a very good sketch indeed and the boys as actors did not in the least suffer by comparison with the professional actors on the bill. At the conclusion of the act the orchestra played the Star Spangled Banner and we dropped a big flag from the flies; making it a big patriotic stunt which was unquestionably a big hit, and they act itself contains plenty of merit, making it advisable to move it from number three to this spot. 12 minutes f.s.
They have some very fine scenery and McKay is a very good dancer. A little of their comedy goes well but most of it is very sad. From a standpoint of entertainment the act would be well paid, even at present rate of prices, if they got one half of the salary that is being paid them. 18 minutes f.s. Could open and close in one.
Blackface comedian – has a good personality and material that secured him plenty of laughs. Finished with some solos on the baritone horn. An act that could easily go further down on the bill. 18 minutes in one.
A Providence girl who probably did better here than she might elsewhere, although she has a pretty good at of character songs. 13 minutes in one.
In its entirety I think this is the best liked act these folks have given. It is entirely new in every respect and it was the first thing we had to wake the audience. 17 min in one, and half.
This act was a decided surprise after what I heard about it. I didn’t expect much, but Monday afternoon the audience as well as myself decided it was a very good act. Personally I think it was the best thing on the bill. A very good sketch and decidedly well played. 25 minutes F.S.
Through the excellent work of a comedian who also does all the good bicycle riding the act gets over very well. The woman is a most indifferent dancer and the other man doesn’t do anything at all that is worth mentioning. Act decidedly over-paid, 12 minutes full stage.
