Two girls doing blackface act, one of the team being exceptionally good, the other one fair. They score well at the finish as well as with one of the single songs. Good three a day act. 18 minutes, in one.
These people’s voices are about gone and they have strung together a number of old specialties, from their two former acts and I presume from that call this a new act which it by no means is. They are getting at least $50 too much money and we frequently have people doing three shows a day who go better. In a very easy spot on the bill they did very well but I can’t see them again for that turn. 18 min, full stage, 2 shows.
He was unquestionably the biggest disappointment of the whole show. There is no doubt of the fact that he is deteriorating and that fact was also recognized by the audience which gave him more applause on his entrance than on his exit. He has a few jokes that are new to him but are not new to our stage and it seems he ought to be able to learn another selection on the bells than the one that he has been playing for fifteen years to my knowledge. 25 min in one, 2 shows.
Dancer. This young man is one of the hits of the bill and deservedly so far he deserves much credit for getting out of the beaten path of sand dancers. His imitations of various walks, while dancing and the base ball dance are certainly novelties to say the least. 10 min, in one, 3 shows. Very good.
While these people have a great deal of ability, more should I say than some acts of more salary, it is a shame they cannot be made to do a little something new in their act. They might, as least, change their opening song which they have been singing ever since they doubled up. While I recognize their worth in many ways, I shall probably not want to play them again until they make some changes in their act. 12 min, open full stage, close in one.
Change artist. He is giving us a new act this time which the audience received very cordially. His changes are as good as those of any of the big people. Had he the acting ability of presenting his work he would be one of the big head-liners. As a three a day act it must be called very good. 15 min, full stage, close in one.
Bicyclists. This is very a very nice act for the early part of the bill. She is a nice looking girl and makes an attractive appearance, and from a three a day standpoint does some very clever work. Should be classed. 13 2 min, full stage, 3 shows.
I expected from these people only a wire walking act and surprised to have them introduce some most remarkable tumbling. Their wire walking is also probably the best we have ever had in this house and certainly the most attractive. The act made unqualified hit and is unquestionably the feature of the show. 15 min, full stage, 2 shows.
This was the greatest fall down of the whole show. I had them down ahead of the Carmen Troupe which position they in no way could hold. They got a little applause in spots but went off with scarcely a thing. There is some merit in the act undoubtedly but they seem to lack the force necessary to reach the audience. The act also somewhat conflicts with that of Gardner & Vincent, for that reason they were no doubt handicapped and they should not be one of our bills later than 8:30 or three in the afternoon. 24 min, open and close in one, 2 shows.
There is no doubt there was a great disappointment felt by the audience in this act. They didn’t seem to like her nearly as well as Milly Capell and she was really a great fall down to the show. Horse acts have never been in great demand with Providences audiences and I think that in the future it would be well to cut them out unless they have more attractiveness than those we have played, at least I should not care to repeat Miss Gardner again. 15 min, full stage, 2 shows.
