Giving us a lot of new characters in his familiar court-room scene. One of the best monologue acts in the business. 18 min. in 1, 2 shows.
In the “Servant Girl Question.” A great laughing horse-play act. Monroe does some good comedy work and the situations are very funny, went with a scream. 17 min. full stage, 2 shows.
Mimic. This young woman didn’t come up to my expectations although she is not bad; however I think $50.00 would be ample for her. She lacks finish; her imitations are not particularly good. 10 min. in 1, 3 shows.
This man is unquestionably the star of the bill. He is among the best, if not the very best monologue entertainer we have today. He has a lot of new bright stories and songs rendered in an intelligent manner and made good thoroughly in a hard place on the bill. 16 min. in one, 2 shows.
There is no gainsaying that these people are a great bluff in everything but their artistic finish. Not one of them is in the slightest degree a clever juggler but they make the people believe that they are very fine before they get through with them although they didn’t make the hit which their salary demands. There is no reason, in my mind, why they should be getting within $300 of the figure they are. 18 min, full stage, 2 shows.
I cannot understand why these people have been a great hit in other places as I have heard and in no sense are they worth anything like the money we are paying them. I should rate them at about $125. They have a good idea which, in the hand of a couple of men like Callahan & Mack, would amount to something but these men are, in no way, equal to it. 17 min. in 2, 2 shows.
Musical act and dance work. As Mr. Pryor was decidedly intoxicated on his first turn (which fact was not known until he got on the stage) we didn’t get as good a presentation of their as usual. Am trying to straighten him out for the next show but do not know what success I will have here. Today they did 10 min, opening in two closing in one, 3 shows.
Comedy bar act. I was very much disappointed with this offering as it in no sense reached, in work on the bars or comedy, what I had been led to expect. I also understood there were three men in the act and on getting here only find two. Probably one of them had dropped out and I should like to be informed on the subject. Their time is very short also so there is evidently something wrong about the act. 7 min, full stage, 3 shows, although they claim they are only engaged for two and did only two in Philadelphia last week.
In a comedy sketch called ‘Cranks’ founded on the automobile craze. The act is a very good one for the salary paid and got quite a few laughs this afternoon. This spot was also a little strong for them as they should go on by three o’clock in the afternoon and 8:30 at night. 25 min. full stage, 2 shows.
Baritone vocalists. This man has a nice voice but I was rather disappointed as I expected something a great deal better. I think he gets about forty dollars a week too much and for a straight singing act of this kind, by a man, it certainly should be a three a day section. 11 min in , 2 shows.
