Equilibrists. These acts never go here and although this man has one or two tricks out of the ordinary, I don’t from any standpoint consider the act worth the money. He does a very few tricks and occupies nearly six minutes of time. Entirely overpaid. 2 shows.
In the protean sketch “Comstock Case Mystery”. I have never seen Mr. DuVries or Miss Wytchelley, but I would unhesitatingly say that either of them would have to “hustle” to do any better work than this young woman offers. The sketch itself is also an excellent one, with some strong situations, both intense and of a comedy nature. The set, to my mind, is sufficiently good to “headline” a bill in almost any house. I think it will be the talk of the town before the middle of the week. Miss Parry’s changes are remarkably rapid, complete and true. Her acting is also excellent. 30 min. full stage, 2 shows.
In spite of the handicap of losing a couple of her Monkeys by death yesterday, she presented a very good act, nicely dressed. The monkeys do some very good tricks; altho the disrobing trick – which I have been told is the best thing in the act – – was necessarily omitted. I don’t think however that anyone need hesitate to play the act in its present condition. 13 min. full stage, 2 shows.
IN a much better offering that I judged from other reports that I had. The act is decidedly a copy in many ways of Howard and North’s. I don’t really understand why the act is billed “Wm. Inman & Co.” for to my mind, the an that does the straight work – to Inman’s Irishman, is the better actor of the two. He did very well in this position on the bill. 30 min. in 1, 3 shows.
Harmonica player and paper tearer. Neat little act in the 3-a-day section. Would be better a little bit higher up, although he gets by decently. 10 min. in 1, 3 shows.
This young man was handicapped in the afternoon show by following ‘The Sunny South’ which nothing but a ‘hurrah’ act in one, should follow. He has a good personally and has good material and made as much of a hit as could be expected under the circumstances and the show nearly ten minutes late. I don’t consider his imitations particularly correct but I don’t believe that the audience realized that. 15 min. in 1, 2 shows.
Impersonator. This girl made a decided hit this afternoon, with her impersonation of Zaza and Digby Bell. I had her introduce the Zaza impersonation, preferring it to Mrs. Campbell who is not known here. I arranged with her Mother today for her to do the Mrs. Brown Potter as per arrangement with Mr. Keith but when she went on at the show she did ‘Evie Green’ and ‘Ellen Terry’ neither of whom the audience know anything about. She is a very arbitrary woman and hard to handle. As to the worth of the act, I should say about $175. 14 min, open in 3, close with about 3 min. in 1, 2 shows.
While these people are not doing quite well as they did last year, the act goes much better here than it did in Boston, according to Boston reports. The trouble with the act is, that it is too long and I am in the same position that Boston was in last week, ‘I need the time.’ – consequently have to let it go. 26 min, open in 3, close in 1, 2 shows.
This act was a distinct disappointment although I by no means consider it a bad act. The woman is decidedly good as a pianist and singer and the little by-play of comedy that she introduces in her songs shows decided cleverness, but the act would be better without the man. He does some very poor comedy, plays indifferently on a one string Viola and fairly well on the Trombone. The act is overpaid by GHR. 26 min. open 3, close in 1, 2 shows.
Hand to hand balancers. These men are without doubt in my mind the best of any people in their line. I do not even expect any of the big European high salaried acts doing this same work and the audience today seemed to be of the same opinion. At the salary that they get I should by all means advise nailing them for a complete tour of the circuit for next season and for such houses this season as they have not played. 10 min. full stage, 3 shows.
