In “Hogan of the Hansom” which they have done here before and which should be replaced by something new. As the audience was aching for a laugh and being in a comparatively easy spot on the bill they went first rate but will not draw us any money in the house. 26 min. full stage, 2 shows.
This is a very neat little song and dance act and had it gone on one-half an hour earlier probably would have gone quite stronger; not quite good enough for the later place on the bill, but better than any of the acts in one which preceded it. 13 min. in one, 3 shows.
This man always goes very poorly, in this house, and today was no exception. In view of the fact that three a day material is very hard to get and we needed an act it was all righto put in to open the show, and dill time but the act is very bad nevertheless. 16 min. open in three, close in one, (but his whole act can be done in one) 3 shows.
Animal act introducing two ponies, two bears, two monkeys, and four dogs. They do the usual animal tricks, but on account of the various animals, the act is somewhat of a novelty. It is well staged and contains the element of comedy, which should prove especially strong in attracting children. All in all quite a good act. 15 min. full stage, 3 shows.
Or “Kelly & O’Brien”, according to how you happen to bill them. One of the good old vaudeville singing and dancing sketches of which we have too few. The present Miss Kent is an improvement over her predecessors, her tough work being especially good; in fact, I know of no one better in her line. The act is an unqualified hit this afternoon. 20 min. open in 3, close in 1, 2 shows.
Comedy acrobatic act which would be all right in its place, but not strong enough for where I am obliged to put it. It is really too bad that I had to swap “Collins & Hart” for this act, especially, in view of the fact, that we are opening this week with opposition. Prevost act is good enough to go on from 7:50 to 8:15 but is not worth the salary. 13 min. full stage, 3 shows.
[Comedy sketch] Possibly my expectations of this act were too great. I had been led to believe that it as the greatest act, of its kind, in Vaudeville. It is might good but the first 15 minutes of it drags horribly. When they get going they get lots of laughs but it is not what I expected and from the way we have boomed it, am afraid that the audience are going to be disappointed almost as much as I. 31 min. full stage, 2 shows.
Dutch comedian. This man has certainly gone by. He has some good bright stuff but doesn’t seem to get it over the foot-lights in the way that the audience get it. His voice has gone and he is decidedly old-fashioned. The act is worth about $100.00 to go on about eight o’clock. 16 min. in one, 2 shows.
“Musical Blacksmiths”. Transformation act. These people drew the first blood of the afternoon, in the way of making anything like a hit. The act is an exceptionally strong one and no doubt will create an awful amount of talk and what business we do, this week, will be due to them, more than to any other three acts on the bill. 10 min. full stage, 2 shows.
“Wandering Minstrels”. This act is all right for the money and had I been able to have put them on, in Hines & Remington’s place, they would have gone much stronger but they hardly were able to hold down their place on the bill. At their salary they are all right and should be rated as good but are not good enough to go on later than 3:15 in this house, at least. 14 min. in one, 2 shows.
