A very pretty sketch, well played, and which went very well with the audience in spite of the very shabby production given it by Mr. Hart who should be made to repaint his scenery before the act goes much further. 21 minutes full stage.
If any act in the bill showed a tendency to weakness, it was this one. Here is a corking good idea gone wrong through cheap methods of presentation. The dancing of the two old men got good applause, and they got strong laughs at finish, but it dragged greatly in spots. 20 minutes. Open 15 minutes in one. Closes 5 minutes full stage.
Hoop-rollers and jugglers. Arrived in time for the night performance, replacing Dupree & Dupree. A good act of the regulation kind. Very speedy. Were well received. 9 minutes. Full stage.
A splendidly mounted and presented singing and dancing act. A good novelty and good advertising feature. I closed the show with them Monday afternoon, but lost a good deal of the value of them that way, although they went very well indeed. 20 mins full stage. Short close in one.
With his new partner, who is unadvertised. This is a corking good comedy act, fully capable of holding any spot on the bill. I have got him up this high because I wanted a strong comedy act as this point, but he is fully capable of holding position second to last. The only fault to be found with the act is the brevity. 12 min. In one.
These people have a good idea, and Mr. Gray himself is quite a capable comedian, but his material is not satisfactory and the rest of the company nothing to brag of. In order to give the best balance to the show, I put them in Number 2, but they are capable of holding a better position, although not strong enough for where I had them – next to closing. I don’t think the act as it stands is worth the salary it is receiving. 20 mins. In one.
In a very good comedy sketch called “A Forgotten Combination.” I was most agreeably surprised with this act. I expected something fairly good, and got an act that was full of laughs from start to finish. This act should by all means, be played anywhere that they have not played, and at the price and with Evan’s reputation, it is a bargain. 27 minutes. Full stage.
This act went fairly well. It might go better in houses in which there was no stock company that had previously played “Baby Mine,” of which this sketch is a terrible piracy. The entire plot is the first act of that play, most of the situations have been taken bodily. It might be well to note that Margaret Mayo wrote the play, “Baby Mine,” and this sketch is credited to Marie and Francis Nordstrom. It took two of them to do it. 16 minutes. Full stage.
Acrobatic act with a little tumbling. Three men. Do some extraordinary tricks, and the act is enlivened by a little comedy which I think could as well be omitted. 8 minutes. Full stage.
This is one of the acts that made good, in fact made quite a hit. Three boys in a lot of comedy singing, club swinging, etc., all in college atmosphere. Something out of the ordinary and met with most marked approval. 21 Min. Open in Two, close in One.
