The Nagyfys

The Nagyfys has a magic and fire-eating act. He does tricks with a cigar and wax sealing. He also does a water bowl trick similar to one done by Nelson the juggler.

Ching Ling Foo and Co.

This “Chinese Variety Show” was thirty minutes long on the full stage. Ching Ling Foo, brought from China by George and Leon Mooser, is a Chinese magician and is accompanied by eleven other performers. Two men do a routine on horizontal bars that are double the size of the ones used by American performers. Another appears on the flying rings. A juggler does a trick with a heavy bowl. A young girl does some plate spinning as well. Then Ching’s daughter Chee Toy sings a rag in English. Ching Ling Foo finished with his magic act in which he produces bowls of water.

Three Travilla Bros. and Diving Seal

This diving act was eight minutes long on the full stage. A seal shuffles onstage and jumps into the water tank, which has a glass front. Three divers then join it in the water. One proceeds to do back somersaults with the seal holding onto his toe. Two men then swim to the bottom of the tank and watch the seal swim underwater for three minutes straight (it is then announced that they hold the world record for staying under water at four minutes and thirty-seven seconds). For the finish, a table is lowered into the water and they are joined by the seal. They stay under and eat at the table for two minutes.

Adele Reeves

The act was twelve minutes long. Adele Reeves sings with a “piercing soubret voice” in the British style, but is unquestionably American. First, she sings a song in which she impersonates members of a stranded dance troupe. Her second is a “cute” number in which the key ascends at the end of each line of a lyric. For the third, she wears black velvet knickerbockers and a white silk waist. She plays guitar and sings a ballad. The last was a semi-recitative medley with excerpts from “Beautiful Lady”, “Ragtime Melodies”, and more.

“The Guy That Puts the ‘Tone’ in Baritone”

The act was eight minutes long. The “Guy” is either a former Chicago blacksmith or prizefighter, according to his manager and the program. He is a large, broad chested man who sings in a powerful baritone. He wears a sack suit and sweater and is clean shaven.
