In the slang comedy sketch, “The Duchess.” A decidedly meritorious offering in which the star and her company appeared to the very best advantage. Miss Whitaker scored a genuine hit. Her personality and ability took a very strong hold of the audience. The act as presented is different from that given here two seasons ago, or rather the manner of presentation is. Miss Whitaker sings her first song with her face protruding through a velvet drop in 2, a small spot light being thrown on her countenance during the rendition of the song. She does the remainder of her act before this special drop. Mr. Hill assists her very ably in the act, and instead of working on the stage he does so from the orchestra pit as musical director. The act was a genuine success.
For some reason or other this act didn’t create the hit looked for. There were some good laughs distributed along the line and the singing and dancing seemed to gain considerable favor. For an act of its reputation it was a disappointment. 30 minutes, special in 3.
