Almont & Dumont

I/M I/W.  Straight musical act.  Thorough musicians, surprised to see the way this act was received.  They did fairly well considering that we have been playing musical acts for the last four weeks.  20 minutes full stage, 5 minutes in one.

Clayton White & Marie Stuart

Presenting the comedy ‘Cherrie.’ Description given in previous criticism. An excellent comedy. Full of good material and business. White certainly has bright lines. Support is weak. Paul Case is very bad. Woman has poor delivery. With a new finish and better company sketch will be a good one. Would prefer ‘Paris’ for this house. 29 min, full stage.

Kitty Traney

Novel juggling and sporting act, with a horse and three dogs.  Act consists of fancy riding, juggling and a wee bit of strong work.  Animals are very well trained.  Very pleasing act, novel and original.  A pity to sacrifice it to close the show.  Very well received.  11 minutes full stage.

Stella Mayhew, Billie Taylor & Co.

In a singing comedy “It happened in Utah”.  Was under the impression this act was a farce instead of a singing sketch.  Miss Mayhew portrays three characters, which serve to show her ability.  Each of her characters are perfectly portrayed.  Her songs are exceptionally bright and nicely rendered and she certainly got the laughs.  Her support is good.  Billie Taylor has a fairly good voice, and I presume if she was to play in a civilized neighbourhood she would prove a big drawing card.  She was, however, the applause hit of the show at both performances.  20 Min. F.B.

Griff

Clown juggler.  This man’s juggling is the smallest part of his set.  His monologue is excellent, well put together and funny.  Really remarkable for an Englishman, especially one who have been in this country but a short time.  Act consists of juggling, hoop-rolling, and orange throwing from the audience.  His general make up and conversation is original.  He does a recitation in one and finishes with a bit of ventriloquial [sic] work which is clever.  Regret that I cannot hive him a better place.  Applause hit of the show up to this time.  23 minutes, full stage, about 8 minutes in one.

Chas. Wayne & Co.

In the comedy ’10 AM or the Morning After.’ Moved this man up on account of the discouraging reports and to my surprise he held his own. Company consists of Gertrude Des Roche & Burt Morton. The woman is rather attractive but has a bad delivery. Wayne’s drunken scene in one with the assistance of Kinetograph describing his trip home started them off with plenty of laughs. The next scene held its own containing plenty of action, good business, laughs, etc. In its entirety it pleased. Wayne always was a bad proposition as a comedian. With another man this act could be improved upon. 26 minutes, open in one 5 minutes, close in one 2 minutes.

Mary Ann Brown

This woman’s personality and general appearance would not startle any one.  Personally she looks like a burlesque woman.  Rather rough and unfinished.  Her first song was very mildly received, the second a trifle better and the third with a little applause.  Her imitations I think are bad but the jury, never having seen the originals, thought they were funny.  Did fairly well considering her place on the bill.  18 Minutes in one.

Gertrude Hoffman

The idea is similar to Henry Lee or a copy of the French actress Liane D’Eve.  Presents imitatitve caricatures of Vesta Victoria, George Cohan, the Gibson Girl, Ann Held, Eddi Foy.  Her disrobing in view of the audience to the better classes might cause a stir and a few laughs but the various caricatures are so cleverly portrayed that the least thought of anything offensive immediately disappears.  She has improved since I saw her down town.  At the matinee she just about got by but at the evening performance, the audience being composed more of a refined element, pronounced her a wonder.  They gave the Anna Held impersonation rousing applause and Eddie Foy character was received with roars of laughter.  She was compelled to take several bows.  Finished strong.  18 Minutes – Close in One 2 Minutes.

Eddie Clark & His Six Winning Widows

The same old act presented before.  Received little applause after his famous “tout” special.  Girls look pretty and were given some recognition for their dancing.  One act that should be relegated to the opposition.  25 Minutes – Close in one 5 minutes.

Juno Salmo

Contortionist – using trapeze and pedestal.  Spangled costumes special electrical effects, assisted by a man who impersonates the “Devil” with good contortion work that amazed the audience and gave a round of applause.  12 Minutes full stage.
