Featuring S.H. Dudley, James Burris, Irving Allen, Rose Lee Tyler. Staged by William Lytell.
"The Smart Set," presented by an organization
made up altogether of colored
people, offers an evening of solid amusement.
Its humor is unhackneyed and intelligently
directed for the most part, although
there are times when it makes its
bid to the upstairs element through
roughness. And as a singing organization
the company approaches the top notch.
There is the true negro melody about the
choruses and the individual singers, at
least as far as their singing goes, make
no attempt to pose. The ensemble numbers
were a real delight to hear, and on
this score alone the offering commands a
hearing.
