The sketch is filled with Japanese culture from kimonos, fans and jiu jitsu to the scenery. The piece features at least four real Japanese actors and acrobats.
The plot is about the misfortunes of the mayor of Tokyo, played by Matt Hanley. The general, George Natason, creates trouble for the mayor when he collaborates with a Russian spy. They speak of nothing of importance and occasionally stop to sing. Alongside this plot, a travelling American musical company. The tenor, Henry Coote, falls in love with the mayors daughter, Maude Gray. Others in the act include Marcus Orlando Kidder, Roger Gray, Eulalie Young, Billy Lynn, Sarah Edwards and Elise Bartlett.
The happy ending sketch is full of good songs, a strong chorus, great dancing numbers and excellent scenery. It is one of the best productions ever put on at Poli's.
