That Severin with expression and gesture, and without a spoken word for forty-nine minutes, can hold intensely an intelligent audience to a tale ofttimes thrilling, even in its muteness, must certainly be the greatest tribute to be paid the man.
For his American debut elected from his repertoire "Conscience," a pantomime in four acts and stage wanes. Also features Mr. Boutens, Mrs. Severin, Mr. Serre, and Mr. Nector.
Severin will do a great deal to bring New Yorkers to a proper appreciation of dumb art. How he can escape being the current rage is beyond comprehension. There isn't. a man, woman or child who should not witness his performance, for he is a great artist, and all the greater in a country accustomed to twenty-minute sketches full of action or horseplay, where he holds a house for forty-nine minutes without a spoken word upon the stageā€”and in vaudeville.
