"Apartment 309" features Robert Edeson as a young newspaper man named Nat Truman. The scene opens in the apartment of Nora Truman (Jane Haven), Nat Truman's sister. He is on assignment and drops by unexpectedly at midnight. He has scheduled an interview with Amos Broadback, a local political pillar. Nora seems to be nervous at the arrival of her brother. The reason for this nervousness is quickly revealed, as Broadback enters. The two have admitted their relations, the man ruining the sister who is understood to be 18 "(but who looks much older from the front)." Nat decides to kill the man by shooting him. Broadback's brother (Edward Wonn) arrives and is calmly told of the murder by Nat, and calmly agrees to arrange the removal of the body. The family physician is called. The lighting is disconnected while the corpse is moved. The brother has advised Nat that the affair be kept quiet.
The cast is very capable, but have little opportunity to display their ability. The climax is only semi-strong; while there are several interesting moments, there is no real dramatic moment. Without a star, the act would hardly carry, with one it barely reaches.
