Musical Berrens

The Musical Berrens did not make the impression with their music that it otherwise would have due to the fact that there were several musical turns that preceded them.
One of the players removed a wig after his second selection revealing he was a female impersonator as well as a violinist. The applause was tumultuous. He garbed himself modestly, giving the impression that he was a foreign woman, of a Spanish type. The impersonator does a good “rag” on the violin. The other man is a pianist with a slightly heavy hand; he still does extremely well on the instrument. During one selection there is some "business" with a man in the box. The lights did not work well at the Garden for this. Neither had the boys supplied themselves with a "plant," which is necessary. It helped along the delusion, however, and brought a larger laugh at the remembrance afterwards.
The impersonator belongs to a new school, the simple kind, without frills. He is more valuable than the other.
