"The Old Hag" opens in the home of a young couple, married but a year. Petty quarrels and tempers make things unhappy. The husband (Arthur Bell) blames everything on his wife's mother (Maude Durand) and the wife (Ann Pittwood) blames everything on the mother-in-law. Mr. Devoy, a family friend, helps with a little diplomacy. The wife's mother, a widow, formerly courted the friend. The old flame is renewed and the sketch ends when he proposes. She doesn't answer and he leaves. When he is gone, she does some audible acting which he hears, having only stepped outside the door. He reenters and they embrace.
Devoy's sketch is a domestic story full of interest from start to finish. The individual parts are excellently played, Devoy and Durand standing out. Devoy probably wrote and staged the sketch.
