Two girls who have something of a novelty in the way of a recitation, costumes, opening their act first with a coon song. As Boston said last week their manner is rather coarse and I think that while they have a good idea that it is not well worked out, although it is something a little bit new and the novelty of the thing it is worth playing once. 12 min in 1, 3 shows.
I don’t see any excuse for these men being in the business at all. They dance fairly well I am willing to admit and the act that they do, if presented by a couple of girls would be all right, but for a couple of great big strong men coming out and singing a little dinky coon song and doing three or four steps and the entire act occupy 8 minutes, it is decidedly like taking money under false pretentions. 8 min in one, 3 shows.
In ‘Minnie from Minnesota.’ Although this is the first time the act has played here I believe it has been given all over the circuit before. Will be sufficient for me to say, that they will be welcome for a return date here another season. The woman does one of the best pieces of character work I have seen in a good while.
These people are doing for me their new act entitled, ‘The Widow’s Third.’ There is a good deal of brightness to it and it is desirable to me at least, because it is new. They only played it one week before this and there is a little crudeness about it and it is somewhat long. When it has been cut down I think it will be a very decent act containing quite a little comedy and some good work besides by the two boys. At present it runs, 27 min full stage, 2 shows. Can probably cut down to 22 min.
Vocalist, and a very good one. She opens in one, with Kiss Waltz, then has a scenic effect in which she comes out on a bridge and sings a song from Robert La Diable. Closing in one again, with a modern ballad. She was something of a hit this afternoon 13 min, open and close in one, 3 shows.
Three girls in a dancing, acrobatic contortion act. They work with a great deal of snap and go, and do some very commendable tricks with a great deal of finish. We have played many an act of a similar nature by men and women in the two day section for much more money that were not nearly as good. Splendid little turn. 9 min, full stage, 3 shows.
I think these men are a thing of the past, as far as vaudeville is concerned. They don’t go nearly as strong as they did the last time, and that engagement was weaker than the present one. Their songs are not as good as they were and the novelty of colored men doing an act of this kind is worn off from repetition. They simply got by nicely and that is all. 20 min, open in three, close in one, 2 shows.
Mimic. This man was a very agreeable disappointment to me and did much better than I expected he would. He gives a most artistic performance and his imitations were presented in a way that made them most acceptable. A decided hit. 20 min, open full stage, and with a strong persuasion gives about 3 minutes, in one, 2 shows.
Two girls doing blackface act, one of the team being exceptionally good, the other one fair. They score well at the finish as well as with one of the single songs. Good three a day act. 18 minutes, in one.
These people’s voices are about gone and they have strung together a number of old specialties, from their two former acts and I presume from that call this a new act which it by no means is. They are getting at least $50 too much money and we frequently have people doing three shows a day who go better. In a very easy spot on the bill they did very well but I can’t see them again for that turn. 18 min, full stage, 2 shows.
