Assisted by Jessie Izett and Dennie Harris in ‘The Vagabond.’ 25 minutes. This is a comedy dramatic sketch and the three people, who are Pittsburgh stock favorites, went very big at every performance. While I think the act a very good one, also that it is played very well, it would be hard to judge what they might do where they were not known. They got receptions on the opening of the act and curtain calls at the finish which was due to their popularity. Mr. Ward wants to continue a few weeks in vaudeville. I think he is a capable actor and I feel sure would at least make good with ‘The Vagabond.’
17 minutes, full stage, closing in one 3 minutes. While this act went very well with the majority of our patrons, I am sure that I would not care to play it again owing to the unlocked for things which Mr. Fitzgibbon is liable to do. Many times during the week he was really insulting to the audience. I think he is suited best with a burlesque show- one that is not particular.
15 minutes, opening in one 3 minutes, closing full stage, wood. This is undoubtedly the best midget act in the business, introducing wrestling at the matinees, boxing at the night performances, heavy weight lifting, trapeze performance and travesty on the Salvation Army. The act is an enormous hit with the patrons, especially this week since we are playing to so many children.
Time of act 12 minutes. Palace. This is a tank act with Mr. and Mrs. Finney remaining under water and doing several tricks while under same. The act causes considerable talk and I guess is as good as any other in their line. However, I do not think I would care to repeat them. This is a bad act for the people in the boxes as you have to set it so far back that more than half the people in our boxes are unable to see the act. The tank has to remain in the same place the entire week.
“Mene Tekel” or the Mystic Ball. 11 min. This act is a novelty and I feel sure that it has drawn us a little money. A sheet of blank paper is suspended from the stage and while swinging to and fro a small ball is placed upon its surface. Travelling across the surface it writes words that are suggested in a whisper by people in the audience to Mr. Konorah. Both Mr. and Mrs. Konorah are clever people and get more out of the act than many others would.
This is his second week and everyone in Pittsburg is talking about him. Sorry to say we were unable to take care of the people who wanted to see him. He is a great and willing worker and has every artist in vaudeville beaten when it comes to figuring out ways to boom business.
Equilibrists. 15 minutes. Garden. Most of the work in this act is done on bicycles and is different from any act we have played. This is their first week in America and their act was not put together as well as it might be. I feel sure that after they have played a few weeks it will be a great act.
27 minutes, full stage, interior, in ‘Old Jed Prouty in Boston.’ This is a very good sketch and I think the name Golden will draw some money. There is one very weak spot in Mr. Golden’s company which if changed would improve it considerable, but the act as it is will more than make good.
Singing, dancing and banjo playing. 3 shows. Olio – time of act 15 minutes. This is act is really a surprise to us. Heretofore they have just been able to get away in the three a day section. They have a fairly good place this week and they are going very big, much better than many two a day we have played.
20 minutes in ‘A Picture from Life.’ This act did very well for us. I consider Mr. Bloom on of the best tramps in the business. This is their third appearance here. While they went very big, I feel sure we would not care to play them again with the same act.
