“They Dixey Boy,” an imitation of George Evans “The Honey Boy.” Copies his makeup, dress and business. The act went very well this afternoon, and held down this difficult spot without the least difficulty. In another year the act should be as good as George Evans. Drop in one. 12 min.
Sketch “In Self Defence.” Miss Wycherly assumes six characters. She is assisted by three men. The sketch is a serious dramatic offering concerning a murder, but ends so abruptly and unexpectedly that it leaves the audience in good humor, and ready for the next offering. The act held the closest attention for 25 min, and proved to be very entertaining. Special set in 4. 25 min.
Sketch entitled “Vaudeville.” It would be impossible to describe this act. It might be called a pocket edition of the Great Lafayette. It consists of a little of everything. They use a transparent drop with light effects, a large size stereopticon with water effects, present a part of Hermann the Great’s act, do a little singing and dancing, give imitations of Marie Dressler etc., and do about everything you would find on a vaudeville program. Like Lafayette, they do such a variety of things that it is impossible to do any one of them real well. Act just got by with a small hand. Two men and three girls. 21 min. F.S. Special scenery.
German comedians. This is the third time this act has played Cleveland this year. They go fairly good considering. Its no doubt a good act but they should cut Cleveland off their list for a long while to come.
As “David Garrick on the Art of Acting”. A very good little play. It is artistic and nicely done. His support is very good. One of the best things of its kind I have seen for a long while. The act runs 21 minutes, full stage.
In a comedy sketch called “The Battle of San Dago”, which contains some talking, a little dancing and singing, and a conglomeration of everything else. This act certainly does make them laugh. The finish represents a battlefield, a bombardment by cannonballs, which is very laughable. Time of act 18 min. full stage, can close in one if necessary.
This act is also no doubt well known over the circuit. One of the best operatic high class singing acts. She was in magnificent voice yesterday. Her work is very artistic and was very much admired by the better class of our audience. Gov. Herrick and his party occupied several boxes last night and were very enthusiastic over her singing. Time of act about 9 min. in one.
An extraordinary good juggling act and will go any place on any bill. This act deserves special mention. The boys are all young and conscientious workers; they are around the theatre every morning practising with the clubs, and I believe that if they are given work so that they can keep together, they will give us one of the best juggling acts we have ever had in vaudeville, and they now give the best one a hard rub for the first honors. Time of act 11 min. in full stage.
In a melodramatic sketch of the 10-20 and 30 per cent order. Four people, three men and one woman. The only redeeming feature about it is at the finish, which ends in a fight. They carry a special set which is absolutely unnecessary, as every vaudeville house can supply it, besides it is only 16 ft. stuff and looks very badly in a house where the house scenery is 20 ft. At the Monday afternoon performance the act went fairly good, with the evening it fell flat and hardly got a curtain call. Act runs about 25 min.
in white face monologue. This act is not nearly as good as it has been. Every time he comes to Cleveland he complains about his voice. A little slice off of his salary would be in keeping with his act. 18 min. in one.
