Assisted by one man. Comedy sketch entitled ‘Just Dorothy.’ There is a mighty little comedy in it. The sketch is really a monologue and mostly descriptive monologue at that. It is serious in spots, intensely serious. Received a little applause at the close. CDF in 3. 17 minutes.
Presenting practically the same act that he did last year, impersonation several characters. Shows changes in his dressing room with the aid of his biograph [sic]. Quite a novelty of the thing doing more than anything else to hold the act in this spot. He has improved it some since I last saw it. Some of his work was applauded, al of it was interesting. Drop in one, 20 min.
We had a good house this afternoon and I think Truly Shattuck and the City Girls are to blame for it. When their number was announced the people began to sit up and take notice. Received advance applause. The act went very well indeed. I was very much amused when the Philadelphia Girl sang ‘Bye, bye, let me sleep.’ The girls are all very pretty and handsomely gowned and each can dance and sing. The audience seemed thoroughly pleased. Palace in 5. 19 minutes.
Ventriloquist. This man keeps up to date and uses a lot of local stuff. However, it is a strange coincidence that the ventriolquists seem to be traveling in bunches. This man can hardly attempt to follow Ed. Reynard, bit that Reynard is a better ventriloquist, but that Reynard had a great deal better stage setting and a great deal of novelty in his act. Duncan got quite a good many laughs today and went well. CDF in 3, close in one. 17 minutes. Cut out ‘more fish.’
Young man and two girls, one young lady playing the piano the other two violins. Young man is a better violinist, in my estimation, than Mr. Voelker. They play solos and duets. Act is good one for the Keith circuit, especially in the continuous houses. It is worth $100 on three shows to start. I can recommend them at this figure. I put them on as a trial act to open the show here this week. They received liberal applause. It is a good act for 8:15 in the continuous houses that like good violin music. CDF in 3, close in one, 13 minutes.
Billed as comediennes. One working straight and the other grotesque. The one working straight can not sing. She tries, but that is near as she gets. Girl doing the comedy carries the act. She received the laughs and they were frequent and hearty. Act ended much better than it started. Drapery in one. 20 minutes.
Two men and a woman in a sketch entitled, ‘The Awakening of Toys.’ An acrobatic comedy sketch well known on the circuit. A good act for children. The act has improved since I last saw it. Work seemed finished and received frequent applause. Very good act for this house. Special drapery in 3. 1 minutes.
Vocalist billed as a singing comedienne. The young lady possesses a very deep voice. Neatly gowned and has quite a winning way, but did not seem to make a great impression on the audience this afternoon although I can see no reason why she should not go well. However, the applause was lacking and the majority of the audience were reading their programs. A good act for the money, but evidently not strong enough for this position in this house. She worked hard and deserved applause. Drapery in one. 12 minutes.
Boy and girl both working straight. This is a dancing act. The girl is quite pretty and dresses neatly. They entertain with acrobatic, eccentric, and straight dancing. A very good act for an early spot on the bill. Open in two close in one 11 minutes.
Sketch “Left at the Post.” Miss Dupont is supported by a man and the support is not as strong as it might be. The sketch has to do with a girl who thought she was jilted and decides to marry the first man who presents himself even though she held him up at the point of a revolver. There is a little good comedy in the act, but the finish fell flat today and Miss Dupont went off with hardly a hand. Cut: “My God I don’t know where I am shot.” CDF 15 min.
