Pianologue. Up to this spot Miss Wakefield was the hit of the show, and received an unusual amount of deserved applause. She sang or rather talked her three songs with piano accompaniment in a very artistic manner. In my mind there is no doubt but that she is the best in this line we have ever played. Received three curtain calls at close. A very good act. 10 minutes. Interior.
Unparalleled Cyclists. 2 Straight and one comedy. This to my mind is one of the best bicycle acts in the business, and considering that they did not go on until 4:30, when our audiences are usually leaving the Theatre, they certainly made the hit of the show, and got the most applause at finish. 15 minutes
“My Wife’s Diamonds”. I was in hopes that this play would do much better here on this trip, as they have never scored very heavily in Cleveland. The act is very similar to that of Gardner Crane’s act; as it deals with the stealing of a diamond necklace, and instead of calling on the servants and employees of the hotel, in Gardner Crane’s act, he calls on the German Girl, Italian Boy, and the French dressmaker. These characters are taken by Miss Cotton. Her German dialect is unusually bad and only spoils this character. The Italian Boy is very good and the French dressmaker is only fair. Mr Long plays the part of the husband, and only does one character of the Italian. The act is far from being a hit and went very flat this afternoon, receiving hardly any applause at all at finish. 22 minutes. Interior.
Offering a condensed musical comedy, entitled, “Mixed Drinks”. Two men and a woman. Musical Knock-about comedy. Some singing, dancing and piano playing, which was fair. This act has to be watched as there are several cuts which you will find below. Act did not go well at all to-day. 17 minutes. Interior Close in one. 2 minutes.
While we have played this act here before, I don’t remember when it went as big as it did today, in fact I think it is better than it ever was. The Sea Lions are really wonderful and do a lot of stuff that a good many jugglers have hard work in doing. 20 minutes in full stage.
Presenting the European Mystery, “Menetekel” or the “Mystic Ball”. This is one of the cleverest mystic acts we have had. They carry a large board suspended on two ropes which is covered in seven or eight sheets of white paper. The lady picks a colored ball from the table and places it upon the board, and at her command it will write any word that is suggested from the audience. This act is worked in full stage with all lights on and they turn the blackboard all the way around, so that you can see that there is no connection with it whatever. A very good act. 12 minutes.
European Comedy Musical Offering. Man and woman in grotesque makeup, playing on several novelty instruments which goes fairly well. The best comedy of the act is the electrical effects which he has in his makeups. Good enough for an opening act. Full stage. 10 minutes. Close in one. 2 minutes.
Australian Baritone This man sang three songs and scored a hit. He appeared to be in excellent voice and his selections were well chosen. A Very pleasant surprise. Drop in one. 10 minutes.
Sketch ‘Mike Haggerty’s Daughter.’ First time in this theatre. The sketch went with roars of laughter throughout, and proved to be one of the best comedy sketches we have played this season. I have never before seen it go so well. A very good act. 24 min. Kitchen in three.
Singing, dancing, and lightning change act, well known in vaudeville. As there was very little comedy in the show ahead of this act, it went very well indeed. We have no unusual acts this week, and so by comparison this act could be considered the feature of the show. I doubt if this would be the case in an exceptional strong bill. The act seemed to be appreciated today, and received some laughter and applause. CDF in three, close in one. 25 min.
