The lad stood high up on a narrow footing and bent backward, while holding glasses full of liquid in either hand, until he reached and held in his teeth another filled glass on a shelf directly beneath and a foot below that on which he was standing, and then carried it in his mouth while he drew himself to the upright position again, without having spilled any liquid. In the next act, the magician did several mystifying things-- like suddenly dropping a blanket and then picking it up and revealing a water bowl with a live duck in it.
Han Ping Chien and company received the loudest burst of applause that evening.
Their act was a feat of truly remarkable suppleness. They were clever performers.
