Due to changes in “The Summer Widowers,” a theatrical production indented to travel to the coast, the two German comedians Max Rogers and William Kolb are taking a respite in vaudeville. “The Delicatessen Shop” is a scene from the second act of “The Widowers” with nothing changed as the two men act as joint proprietors of the titular shop. While the idea is not original the two comedians make it funny as the pair do good work.
Rogers’ funny face and quaint antics go farther to arouse amusement than all the lines that could be handed to him. Kolb depends probably more upon the writers, but is still a good German and a first rate comedian.
For vaudeville purposes the act is running too long at thirty two minutes. If their vaudeville venture is to be labeled a success they most produce an act that warrants continuous laughter. The songs from each comedian should be cut for starters as they are not needed. The show generally though went over well with big laughs in the second half, but it ran too long for applause at the finish.
