She did a dance which brought the enthusiastic applause of the audience, something the others failed to receive. One or two of the women among the collection attracted some individual attention, either through personality or dancing, but La Esmeralda saved the act from an awful bump.
At the last minute La Esmeralda, a Spanish dancer, who had been booked over here for the Klaw & Erlanger circuit as a single act, was added to the Congress of Spanish Dancers, twelve se- nqritaa and two senors, who had been gathered from Spain to make the "Congress." It was a happy thought of some one to place La Esmeralda in the act. Without her the "Congress" would prob- ably have adjourned sine die after the first show.
