Ballin plays the mandolin while standing on one foot, then with the instrument resting on his shoulder, and finally atop a table where he lies on his shoulders, feet suspended upwards. At the psychological moment, he blows a small tin whistle and the stage crew pulls the necessary string to bring the American flag into view. Ballin picks up a so-called patriotic number on the string, "U. S. Sounds of Peace."
The number he played goes for peace, however those in present seemed inclined to favor war. Ballin's present routine is impossible.
